Thoughts on 2016

There is something quite extraordinary happening in the world around us today. So many individuals who have shaped societal norms, culture and have influenced generations of people are sadly passing away. It’s very difficult to witness so much greatness leave this earth, as we are left to ponder who we seek for the answers to our questions. I do believe that it is time for rebirth, creation, innovation and new beginnings. An idea cannot flourish without the desire for change, hope and direction and I believe that the world is in desperate need for that in 2016.

Enlightenment, understood in the widest sense as the advance of thought, has always aimed at liberating human beings from fear and installing them as masters. Yet the wholly enlightened earth radiates under the sign of disaster triumphant

– Max Horkheimer and Theodor W. Adorno – Dialectic of Enlightenment Frankfurt School

This occurred in the early 18th century in Western Europe. This occurred when you look back to the 1960’s whereby the most powerful and influential men in the world were assassinated, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, El-hajj Malik El’Shabbazz (Malcolm X), John Kennedy and Robert Kennedy. This year, the passing of icons such as Harper Lee, David Bowie, Prince and Muhammed Ali (Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr) all but remind me that this time in history could certainly be the dawn of a new era. The Age of Enlightenment!
